The Large Hadron Collider, a 27-kilometer long underground particle accelerator built in Switzerland on the border with France. The Collider is aimed to find out more about how the universe works. However it has been described as tampering with nature amid concerns that it might create micro black holes that would swallow the planet. The Large Hardon Collider is the biggest and the most expensive machine ever created in history, with an estimated cost of $US 9 billion.
