A photo of the original Titanic iceberg is expected to grab $10,000.
When rare finds appear in auctions, they can garner huge sums.
One item that’s stirring quite a reaction is a photo of an iceberg that was taken by a ship captain, two days before the sinking of the famous Titanic. Experts believe the iceberg is the same one that the boat struck, leading to more than 1,500 deaths on April 14th, 1912.
The black and white photo is being sold at an American auction expected to grab roughly $10,000. According to a Titanic researcher, ‘This particular iceberg had an ellipse on the top right of the iceberg’, which matches eyewitness accounts and sketches.
A caption, handwritten on the picture depicts the latitude and longitude of the iceberg, which corresponds with the location of the original one.
Earlier this year, several other auctions offered unusual and rare pieces.
A letter hand written by the world-renowned physicist Albert Einstein regarding his views on religion sold for more than $3 million. A woman in Southern Brazil decided to auction off her virginity for $780,000 as part of a film documentary.
