A gunman is in FBI custody after wounding a guard at the Family Research Council in Washington D.C. on Wednesday (August 15).

The male security guard was shot in the arm after confronting the suspected gunman in the lobby.

Guards wrestled the gunman to the ground and took him into custody.

The wounded guard was sent to a hospital and is now in stable condition.

The Family Research Council is a conservative Christian lobbying group, which strongly opposes same-sex marriage and abortion.

Police said the motive for the attack is unknown, but they thought it "might fall under being considered a hate crime".
