Hundreds of thousands of people in Hong Kong took to the streets on Sunday calling for the resignation of Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying, after unauthorized structures were made to his house and his credibility came into question. Albert Ho Chun-yan, chairman of Democratic Party who competed in the election for Chief Executive, planned to apply for a judicial review to overturn Leung's victory.
After consulting a team of lawyers, Ho will first apply for a judicial review, and if denied, he will seek an election petition.
Alberto Ho said, “We stated with the court that the seven-day limit is unreasonable, because many things cannot be accomplished in seven days.” He went on remarking, “We will request the court to announce the seven-day limit is unconstitutional, which would allow me to apply for a court petition.”
Ho is confident that he has enough evidence to prove that Leung lied during the election to cover up his building violation while attacking his opponent Henry Tang Ying-yen with the same allegation, thus manipulating the outcome in his favor by influencing Liberal Party members’ opinions toward Tang.
Ho emphasized it was his duty to ensure the election’s fairness, even if it’s not a democratic one.
