The study looked at 45,000 women in Denmark and found a predictive association between T. gondii infection and symptoms such as loneliness, hoarding, depression and suicide.
The most disturbing finding was that women infected with T. gondii were more likely to commit suicide in a violent manner and were one-and-a-half times more likely to commit suicide in general than women who were not infected with the parasite.
Coming into contact with cat feces isn't the only way people can become infected with Toxoplasma gondii. The parasite is also found in undercooked meat and unwashed vegetables.
