The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, also known as FARC, is the largest group that has been involved in an armed conflict against the Colombian government for decades.

Just days ahead of the country's March 14 congressional elections - FARC had tried to disrupt the poll by stepping up attacks against security forces.

Despite the government's deployment of over 100,000 troops to protect polling stations, FARC members still attacked nearby - even on election day.

Al Jazeera's Teresa Bo reports from the city of Cauca - where residents were caught in the middle of the fighting.
