Kevin Mark Trail, has come a long way since his first album Just Living was released to wide critical acclaim in 2005. His album success established him as a well-respected artist in the industry and won him a huge online fan base. The up tempo single D Thames received particular praise by industry gurus like Trevor Nelson, Ras Kwame and Ronnie Herel. Kevin has spent the last three years working on a variety of projects, not only recording new material but also touring and recording as part of The Streets collective founded by Mike Skinner. He appears on the first Streets album Original Pirate Material and their current album Everything Is Borrowed. Kevins collaborations include co-writing and singing with Nitin Sawney on his sensational hit album Human. He has also worked with Estelle, Black Twang, Rodney P, Tor and MJ Cole. A trans-Atlantic artist, Kevin has toured world wide with the Streets and in Europe with Beverley Knight, US Jazz/Soul sensation Lizz Wright, Massive Attack, Pharrell Williams/N.E.R.D among others.
The past two years have been a kaleidoscope of challenges, opportunities and lessons and Kevin and his music have grown as a result. Now 29, Kevin is doing even more songwriting co-writing and producing, with a variety of artists. His EP- aptly titled Sketches is a search for truth in style and substance; an acoustic folk soul sound that breaks out of RnB and neo soul clichés. Following on from the biographical themes explored in Just Living, ballads such as Just Your Smile and Greenland, accompanied by solo guitar or piano have already created a buzz on iTunes and MySpace.
Kevin was born in the UK to Jamaican parents and uses his Jamaican heritage as a springboard to understanding his voice. He draws his musical influences from Soul, folk, hip hop, reggae, classical, jazz, world music and in short, anywhere. Recently Kevin has been spending a lot of time New Zealand working with Saxophonist Nathan Haines, and World music collective Hui-a. Now working on his next album, and underground project Home Work Trail is continuing on his path, as an artist speaking on behalf of a new generation. Just telling it, the way it actually is in his world.
