Last month, Google Reader introduced a new product called Google Reader Play. It’s an experimental product that allows users to see what is popular online in a fun and new way.
Brian Shih, a Product Manager with Google Reader, told WebProNews that his team looked at a variety of signals to find out what people were really doing within Reader. As a result, they created a new user interface that people could enjoy.
Google Reader Play allows users to customize what they see. Typically, users see a variety of global items when they log-in. However, with Play, users can choose the categories that they want to see. In addition, Google Reader builds an online profile based upon what users like, which creates personalized content.
One of the most interesting things about Google Reader Play is its accessibility. Because there is no set-up required, anyone can access Play and all the content it provides.
