Gemma Arterton has defied the Icelandic volcano, to attend one of the week's only showbiz events that did not get scrapped in the wake of the eruption.
"I know! I think I'm one of the only people who are actually here," the actress said.
The 24-year-old stepped out in skyscraper heels at the gala screening on Wednesday night of her new British thriller, The Disappearance of Alice Creed. The world premiere happened at Southampton University on Tuesday, after the Students' Union won a well publicised Facebook campaign.
The low budget movie is the story of a young girl who is kidnapped. It is the debut film from writer and director J Blakeson.
It also stars Sherlock Holmes star Eddie Marsan who came to blows with Gemma during filming. She said: "I got accidently punched once, which was during a scene with Eddie - I was really girly about it!"
