Madonna and her adopted son David Banda have returned to the place where he grew up.
The superstar and her group travelled to the Home Of Hope orphanage in central Malawi.
Locals could be heard chanting: "Welcome home, David!" and "we love you, David!"
Press were kept at a distance during the visit, but the four-year-old and his older sister Lourdes could be seen playing with other children.
David's biological father Yohane Banda did not attend the reunion.
Madonna caused controversy in 2006 and again in 2009 when she adopted Malawian toddlers David and Mercy James. Many claimed she had skirted the country's rules which prevent non-residents from adopting.
The star's latest visit is part of a week long tour of Malawi. The 51-year-old has pumped millions into the impoverished nation through her Raising Malawi foundation which runs six orphanages there. She is also building a school for girls on the outskirts of the country's capital, Lilongwe.
