Nvidia Plans New China-Friendly AI Chips To Comply With U.S. Export Rules

Nvidia is modifying the design of its AI chips to continue selling them to major Chinese firms without violating U.S. export restrictions, according to Reuters. The chip giant has reportedly discussed its redesigned AI chips with major Chinese clients, including Alibaba, ByteDance, and Tencent. CEO Jensen Huang reportedly informed clients of the revised chip strategy during his mid-April visit to Beijing, shortly after the U.S. government barred exports of Nvidia’s H20 chips to China. Those curbs are expected to cost the company $5.5 billion. Nvidia told customers a new chip sample could arrive by June and that it is still developing a China-specific version of its next-generation Blackwell chip.
