BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut recently alleged she received an electricity bill of Rs 1 lakh for her supposedly unoccupied home in Manali. However, the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) has now clarified that the bill was for Rs 90,384, covering two months with pending arrears—not just one month.
HPSEB MD Sandeep Kumar said Kangana hasn't paid her bills since January 16 and has a history of delayed payments. He added that the bill includes Rs 31,000+ in arrears and that her consumption for March alone was over Rs 55,000. The delay in payments and high usage led to the current amount.
The board also revealed that Ranaut’s home has a massive connected load of 94.82 kW—around 1500% higher than a regular household—and her monthly usage ranges between 5,000 to 9,000 units. Despite her public criticism, she continues to benefit from government subsidies, including Rs 700 on her February bill.
Officials also noted that no representative of Ranaut contacted them before she went public with her claims.
