Violent protests broke out in West Bengal's Murshidabad district, specifically in the Jangipur area, over opposition to the Waqf law. A large crowd gathered to demonstrate but soon turned violent, setting police vehicles on fire and pelting stones at the police, leaving several officers injured. The mob also vandalized local shops, and in a desperate attempt to save themselves, police personnel were seen hiding inside a hardware shop, even removing their uniforms out of fear. In response to the unrest, the administration imposed Section 144 in the area and suspended internet services to prevent the spread of rumors. So far, 22 people have been arrested. The situation is now under control, but political tensions have escalated, with TMC and BJP blaming each other. Governor CV Ananda Bose has sought a report from the state government, urging strict action. Meanwhile, CM Mamata Banerjee alleged a conspiracy to defame Bengal and divide its people.
