The act came amid heightened security in many regions to prevent communal unrest during the festival.In West Bengal, Ram Navami took on a political dimension ahead of the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari led a grand procession dressed in saffron and laid the foundation stone for a Ram temple in Sonachura, Nandigram — a historically charged site linked to the 2007 anti-land acquisition movement. The chants of “Jai Shri Ram” echoed through the area as hundreds of supporters joined the event.The state witnessed around 2,500 Ram Navami processions with more than 6,000 police personnel deployed to maintain peace. Roads across towns and villages were adorned with saffron flags, devotional songs, and tableaux depicting scenes from the Ramayana. Both the BJP and TMC actively participated, showcasing how the religious festival is also becoming a stage for political messaging.
