In this video, I'll show how to fix the problem of 512 MB limit in GTA IV (Grand Theft Auto IV), in which the user's graphic memory in the game is limited and restricted, effectively not allowing the player to choose higher graphical settings, such as Texture Quality on High. When this problem happens, the user's VRAM in GTA IV is limited to 512 MB, and thus, the game settings in GTA IV won't change no matter what. When this happens, the highest setting the user can select for Texture Quality is stuck on Medium, along with many other graphical settings which cannot be changed to higher options.
In order to fix this problem, it is necessary to allow the game to recognize that the user has hardware capable of more than 512 MB of visual memory.
To fix this problem,
1. Go to the game folder
If you play GTA IV through Steam, the default game folder is located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto IV
2. Open "GTAIV" folder
3. Find "PlayGTAIV" executable
4. Right-click it - Click "Show more options" - Click "Create shortcut"
5. Find the "PlayGTAIV" shortcut
6. Right-click it - Click "Properties"
7. At the end of the path, press space and write the following:
-availablevidmem 4096 -nomemrestrict -norestrictions -reservedApp 0
8. Click "Apply" - Click "OK"
You need to always play using this shortcut.
