Jalandhar: A shocking robbery attempt in Sri Guru Gobind Singh Avenue, one of the most upscale areas of Jalandhar, left a 65-year-old woman seriously injured. The incident occurred at 12:20 PM on Friday when a robber, armed with a sharp weapon (Dat), entered house number 262.
As soon as the women of the house saw the intruder, they screamed and rushed towards the gate to escape. However, the assailant caught one of them, Neelam Gupta, from behind and attacked her hand with the weapon, causing a severe injury. The entire episode was captured on CCTV.
Following the incident, the police launched an investigation and arrested the accused, identified as Rajan, a resident of Lumma Pind. Rama Mandi police station in-charge Parminder Singh confirmed the arrest over the phone.
The brutal attack has created an atmosphere of fear in the colony, which consists of six major residential complexes built on land belonging to the Nagar Sudhar Trust. Residents have now demanded increased security measures in the area.
Eyewitnesses reported that moments after the attack, a masked man wielding a weapon fled towards the market, with locals attempting to chase him but failing to apprehend him. The sight of blood-soaked pavement near the house's entrance has left the community shaken.
CCTV footage shows the elderly woman running out of the house, calling for help, while the robber follows closely behind, brandishing his weapon before attacking her and making his escape. Meanwhile, the victim’s family, still in shock, has refrained from speaking to the media.
