Cuban Santeria followers pray for Pope Francis's recovery
Cuban Santeria priestesses held a spiritual mass for the health of Pope Francis on Saturday, March 1, in Havana, uniting Afro-Cuban chants and Catholic prayers to pray for his recovery.
The ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Yoruba Cultural Association of Cuba, in the heart of Havana, where a dozen of 'Santerias' placed the name of the pontiff written on a sheet of paper on their altar to make him the center of their prayers.
Millions of Cubans practice Santeria, a religion that fuses Yoruba beliefs and traditions, brought to Cuba by African enslaved people, with elements of Catholicism.
