A total of 247 heavy vehicle operation licences were suspended last year, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
Speaking during the ministry’s parliamentary question time on Wednesday (Feb 26), Loke also stated that 23 vehicle permits were suspended for violating road safety standards.
In response to a question from Datuk Shamsulkahar Mohd Deli (BN-Jempol) on whether additional measures could be taken beyond suspending or revoking licenses for overloaded vehicles, Loke said operators could face court charges with a fine of up to RM500,000 or face imprisonment for not more than two years under the Land Public Transport Agency Act.
