The minimum wage is not determined by the Poverty Line Income (PLI), says Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad.
Speaking during Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Feb 25), he explained that the minimum wage serves as a basic salary to ensure workers and their families can meet essential needs.
Abdul Rahman added that the minimum wage is reviewed every two years, with input from representatives of the Finance Ministry, Economy Ministry, Sarawak Economic Planning Unit, Sabah Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry, as well as organisations such as the Malaysian Employers Federation, trade unions, and economic experts.
