As part of efforts to clean up the damaged Fukushima Power Plant in the aftermath of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, Japan has been releasing treated radioactive water from the Advanced Liquid Processing System into the ocean. Seawater samples have been collected to test whether the treated water is safe, and the International Atomic Energy Agency has said they meet Japan's safety standards.
