President Donald Trump’s nominee for FBI director, Kash Patel, was accused of directing a purge of civil servants at the agency before his Senate confirmation. Senator Dick Durbin, Democrat of Illinois, alleged Patel received internal FBI information and provided direction to White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, who relayed it to top Trump officials. In a letter to the Justice Department, the senator suggested Patel may have perjured himself during his confirmation hearing when he denied knowledge of efforts to remove FBI personnel. Patel’s spokeswoman dismissed the allegations as “false narratives.” The Senate Judiciary Committee is set to vote on his nomination Thursday.
