An Alabama man pleaded guilty to hacking the Securities and Exchange Commission’s X account and manipulating Bitcoin prices. Twenty-five-year-old Eric Council Jr. was admitted in a Washington, D.C. court to conspiring to commit identity theft and access device fraud. The post briefly sent Bitcoin’s price up $1,000 before falling $2,000 when the SEC denied the claim. Council allegedly made $50,000 from the scheme. He faces up to five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and sentencing on May 16.
