There is a swimming pool in Roubaix, La Piscine, that is no longer a swimming pool, but a unique art deco gallery. The gallery houses a breathtaking selection of sculptures and paintings, lit by an enormous sunset painted on glass.
Opened on October 21, 2001, the La Piscine - André Diligent Museum of Art and Industry is located on the site of the former Art Deco municipal swimming pool, built between 1927 and 1932 on the initiative of the mayor Jean-Baptiste Lebas, according to the plans of the architect Albert Baert (1863-1951) from Lille. Today listed as a 20th-century heritage site, at the time this swimming pool offered high-quality sports and hygiene services with an innovative social operation that conveyed the image of an urban, working-class society capable of promoting extraordinary and prestigious projects.
