Seattle has a secret - there is a beautiful canal going through the heart of the city. The Ship Canal connects Puget Sound with the large freshwater lake to the east and splits the city right in two. Since Seattle is also a big maritime city, there are thousands of ships, large and small, that transit this canal -- including riding the Ballard Locks that raise and lower boats from sea level.
