Sanctioned by the Federación Nicaragüense de Motociclismo (Fenimoto), the motorcycle meeting organized by the Alcaldía Municipal de Chichigalpa, on a temporary track in the town of the Chinandega department, Nicaragua, on Sunday, 27 February 2022, was marred by disorganization and lack of security. The race day was overshadowed by the death of a young rider.
While traveling at high speed, near the end of one of the races, 17-year-old Jareth Tórrez crashed into a private tricycle that had invaded the track. The impact was unavoidable, and he was killed. The fate of the other vehicle's driver is unknown.
Jareth Josué Tórrez Montenegro was known as "Copetito" Tórrez in the racing community of Nicaragua. From his debut at the age of 13, the youngster demonstrated to be a very promising rider. Jareth intended to follow in his father Edwin "Copete" Tórrez's footsteps by competing in motorcycle road racing.
