Spanish photographer Alejandro Solana, 23 years of age, died on Monday, 27 October 2014 at the Hospital Universitario de Canarias (HUC) in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, from head injuries suffered two days before, during the Subida a Valle Tabares-Jiménez, held in La Laguna, Tenerife. The event was a round of the Campeonato Interinsular de Montaña de Tenerife.
The accident occurred around 12h00 on Saturday, 25 October 2014. During the first heat of the hillclimb, the group-A Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII #25, entered by Isora Motorsport and driven by Tomás Negrín Suárez, went out of control due to high speed on the approach to the sharp left-hander named Curva de Los Cochinos. The car left the road and plunged down a 15-meter high embankment, hitting photographer Alejandro Solana who was standing in a prohibited area on the exit of the bend.
Seriously injured, Solana was transferred to the Hospital Universitario de Canarias (HUC) where he was inducted into a coma. According to the first official reports, he was breathing for himself. But, despite the efforts of the doctors, Alejandro Solana’s injuries proved to be too severe and he passed away two days later.
