White Neighbor Arrested After Ring Camera Films Racist Threats.
Shocking doorbell video captures a white teen repeatedly pounding on the door of a black woman and her daughter — spewing racial slurs and threatening to rape and murder the Oregon women while making stabbing motions with a knife.
Nubrittany Smith told KOIN that she and her mom, Tasha, started getting the terrifying visits soon after they moved into their new apartment in Gresham, a city in the suburbs of Portland, in June.
Smith shared videos from her Ring camera of the man, identified as 19-year-old neighbor Dominic Austin, repeatedly walking up to her door while shirtless — and swinging and thrusting a blade as if attacking them.
“I’ll f—ing rape your daughter, bitch!” the suspect says in one video. “You’re about to get murdered,” he says in another, adding: “Call the cops, bitch!”
The footage also shows the man mumbling about slavery and saying he wants the two women to be whipped.
In one, he stops walking away to turn back and say: “N—er bitch.”
Smith notified police and the building management on June 30 — the day after the first incident — and continued to report the threats, with nothing being done, she complained.
“We were terrified, we were upset, we didn’t know what was going on,” she told KOIN.
“Instantly, we took the videos from the Ring camera, attached them to an email and sent them to the Landings at the Morrison,” she said of the apartment complex.
Management only notified Austin on Sept. 8, and an eviction notice was then filed, according to KOIN.
“Part of the rental agreement says that if a tenant should threaten another tenant, the landlord can throw the offender out in 24 hours’ notice,” attorney Greg Kafoury told the outlet.
“The people who run this very large apartment complex didn’t give a damn,” he said. “The police didn’t give a damn. And I don’t know how anyone can look at those videos and come to any other conclusion.”
Smith complained about the response to her complaints.
“As a black woman, we (my mother and me), I felt that we weren’t heard. I feel that we were not important,” she told KOIN.
In August, another resident had filed a temporary protective order against Austin for similar threats that were reported to police at least twice, according to the outlet.
Austin was arrested on Sept. 20 on one count of menacing and 10 counts of violating a stalking protective order.
“I was failed by the system and by the Landings at the Morrison,” Smith told the station. “I don’t feel safe. Because he’s in jail today but I don’t know what tomorrow is going to be. He could be released at any time. Then what happens next?”
