いろはちゃんは、２０１４年６月、負傷猫として埼玉県動物指導センターという行政施設に収容された。埼玉県動物指導センターでは、収容後３日が経過すると、飼い主などの迎えがない動物は殺処分されてしまう。Ｈｏｐｅ ｔｏ ＬｉｆｅチームＺＥＲＯでは、２０１４年から収容された負傷猫の保護を行っていて、いろはちゃんも対象になったのだという。
