When Shobana Chandrasekar and her team of volunteers set out to clean up a wall in Ooty defaced by graffiti like they do every week, they didn't expect to face violent opposition from the ruling AIADMK party members.
The group of women began cleaning and painting a wall with graffiti and birthday wishes for former chief minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa. Within half an hour, AIADMK members arrived at the spot on Spencer Road and began abusing the women for erasing the birthday wishes they had painted for their leader.
