University canteens in China are using an automated checkout system that can help diners work out how meals will affect their waistlines as well as their wallets. The Aeye-Go system developed at Shanghai’s Jiao Tong University uses artificial intelligence to recognise food as it tallies up the number of calories and cost of the items.
