President Trump reportedly mocked Fox News personality Sean Hannity for throwing him such softball questions that give him no fuel to launch a verbal firestorm. Three people who spoke with the Daily Beast said Trump has frequently lamented about Hannity's interviewing style, with one source recalling that the president said, "It's like he's not even trying." Jeff Lord, a Trump ally and one-time political commentator for CNN told the news site, "[Trump] does enjoy the back-and-forth with the press—look at this whole Jim Acosta thing. The president can call on anybody he wants. He could have ignored Jim Acosta. He didn't do it. And he didn't do it because…they would have some chance to do some verbal jousting there." Notably, a number of people interviewed by the Daily Beast did say that Trump "loves Sean." That fondness was apparent when Trump invited Hannity to the stage of a rally held just before the midterm elections. Though Hannity insisted prior to the event that he would not be participating, he did answer Trump's call to the podium and, at one point, described the media in attendance as "fake news," notes ABC News. That was one of the many times in recent years that Hannity has served as a champion for the president, coming to his defense on a number of controversial matters, including the sexually aggressive comments Trump made about women in the Access Hollywood tape. It has been suggested that he serves as an influential adviser to the president, with some sources saying Trump frequently calls Hannity after his evening show.
