Witnesses at the scene of the fire at a tahfiz (religious) school in Kuala Lumpur said they could see the children trapped inside the building trying to escape and calling out for help, until the raging fires and choking smoke engulfed them.
Neighbour Nurhayati Abdul Halim recounted her experience to The Malaysian Insight while holding back tears.
