Sometimes, the scar from a tummy tuck can get wide after surgery. Patients often compare C-section scars and tummy tuck scars, but there is a big difference between the two. There is absolutely no tension on the closure in a C-section scar. When there is to tension in the closure of the scar then the scar heal better. On the other hand, tummy tuck scars are formed when the skin is excised and pulled down, the closure results in a certain degree of tension. This tension, due to the pulling of the upward and downward vector, can cause the scar to widen after the incision has closed. This problem is more common for patients with better skin tone. If your skin tone is tight, the skin is will not stretch as much and the scar will be tighter as a result. This will increase the tension of the closure increasing the risks of having this problem. In order to decrease the tension of the closure and provide a better scar, the incision needs to be close in multiple layers. Also you need to walk with your hips flex to diminish the tension of the closure. Wide scars are uncommon, but are a complication for patients with tight skin tone.
