Finances should never be an impediment to coming in and talking to us and seeing what we can do. One of the things that is often a problem when someone does come see us is that the other partner in the marriage has control over the finances, the checkbook, the savings accounts, all of those things that would make it easier for someone maybe to get out of a bad situation. What we would do is look to the courts to provide a court order that the controlling spouse – the person that has the access to those funds – would be required to remit legal fees, immediate support early on in the case so that the person seeking the divorce is not impeded by lack of access to the marital funds.
