French police used an axe to break into a church in the Saint-Denis suburb of Paris on Wednesday, while checking local buildings for people in hiding. Police had raided a nearby apartment where the suspected mastermind of last week's attacks was believed to be holed up. The siege ended with two deaths and seven arrests but no clear information on his fate.
