The forum, Freedom of Reigion or Apostasy, was held on November 8, 2012. It brought together the younger generation to put out their stand on an issue that had been capturing the political headlines since November 3 when opposition MP and PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar quoted a verse from the Quran stating that the is no compulsion in religion. The verse is from surah Al-Baqarah, verse 256.
The four speakers were:
Hasmi Hashim, lyricist
Muhammad Asyrah Mohd Ridzuan a.k.a Imam Muda Asyraf and winner of the first season of the Imam Muda reality programme
Wan Ji Wan Hussin a social activist and 'pendakwah'
Eekmal Ahmad former press secretary to PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim
The four speakers had similar views on the verse, but Imam Muda Asyraf had a slightly different view on apostacy.
