You can make a Black and Tan with pretty much any ale or lager and Guiness. The proper way is to use an Irish Ale like Smtihwick's or and English one like Harp Lager or Bass Ale. We tried this with a light lager and it was not dense enough to hold the Guiness up, so NO LIGHT BEER! Of course anytime you can avoid light the better;)
To make this drink you will need the following:
1 can or bottle of Guiness Draught
1 bottle of Bass Ale
A glass, of course (a tall one at that)
A Spoon larger enough to pour over.
First, pour what would appear to be 2/3 of a glass of Bass into your glass. We say "what appears to be 2/3.." because most glasses get wider as you approach the top. You can pour less if you like but it will make it difficult to get that separation needed. Make sure you get a good head on the Bass to aide in your Guiness pour. Next crack you Guiness and slowly, but confidently, pour the Guin
