European Space Agency astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti set the record for the longest time a female astronaut has spent in space. Cristoforetti returned to earth after 199 days on the International Space Station (ISS). She and the rest of the three-person crew from the ISS landed safely in Kazakhstan after a longer-than-expected orbital stint.
