Official Quakewiki Video - Quake - Aftershock for Quake - DUNG

I would feel pretty bad criticizing this level, especially since it is pretty easy to do such with the filename being "DUNG". Apparently, even the level designer thought this map pretty dull, as I cannot see any rational reason for the name otherwise. Similar to CLAUS or DOORH, this level has no documentation and also does not have any in-game name, meaning we must rely on the filename for identification purposes.

This level feels very small. It is basically four claustrophobic rooms, weapons are often placed in relatively close proximity to each other due to these size constraints. All weapons are used in the map, though not all are the most useful. The Rocket Launcher, which rests on an oddly roofed platform, has a nearby Quad, meaning you can be pretty devastating when heading for this weapon. The Double-Barrelled Shotgun is found at what is basically the main intersection of the map, while the Nailgun is below it. The Grenade Launcher is found in a conveniently ramped room. The Thunderbolt sounds useful due to being relatively accessible, but the far away placement of the ammo means it isn't the most convenient weapon here. The Super Nailgun can be found near the Rocket Launcher platform, which means it could be convenient in stopping people from getting the devastating weaponry, until you realize that you can't move fast enough out of the way of a Rocket while on this platform.

Overall, the level is pretty unattractive, especially in comparison to a lot of the maps we have been seeing. Most of the map is rock tunnels with some dirt, while the Rocket Launcher room is mostly made of tiles. Beyond the platforms that hold the weapons, there is little in the form of architectural details. This makes the level rather forgettable.

This level isn't the worst one ever made, far from it. Of course, there are plenty of other maps out there with either better eye candy or better balance of weapons. This level in comparison just feels boring and forgettable.
