A former Army volunteer with one prosthetic arm was able to successfully scale a rock climbing wall at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland.

DARPA or the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency shared footage of the climb to demonstrate how it works. The man was able to use the prosthetic to grasp onto rocks and pull himself up, just like he did with his other arm.

The prosthetic arm system nicknamed Luke is designed to not only resemble a human arm but function in a similar way. Electric signals from a person's muscles control it.

Because the prosthetic is using the signals from a human body, the arm moves naturally and makes normal tasks like grasping objects and even rock climbing a possibility.
