A high-tech garment made a splash at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show. It features mechanical limbs that react to social situations based on the user’s stress levels.
A dress is making headlines at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
What is known as the “Spider Dress” contains a 3D-printed bodice with mechanical limbs that move to ward off those who invade the wearer’s personal space.
The device contains 20 embedded proximity sensors, which have a range of about 23 feet, and bio-signals to monitor the wearer’s breathing and stress level.
It also uses Intel’s Edison platform to react in real-time to changes in mood or emotion.
The dress was created by Anouk Wipprecht, a Dutch-based designer and engineer who describes her expertise as “fashion-tech.”
Her inspiration was to use “technology and the garment as a medium of interaction.”
