On Christmas Day, a dog named Sandy fell 150 feet from a trail and prompted a rescue by the Oregon Humane Society. Sandy had been on a hike with her owner, David Schelske prior to the fall.

At some point, he took off his backpack and secured the labrador retriever’s leash to it so he could snap a photo of the surroundings. All of a sudden, Sandy got spooked and tugged away from the spot where she was tied.

The leash snapped and she continued running. Other hikers joined Schelske in the search for Sandy and one woman witnessed the canine standing on a ledge. Eight volunteers from the Oregon Humane Society arrived to help.

One of them descended about 150 feet down. Once he reached the dog, the volunteer placed a rescue harness over her body and they were pulled back up the trail together.

It was almost midnight when Schelske and Sandy were able to head back home and rest from the physically and emotionally exhausting ordeal.

As a result of the fall, Sandy suffered from minor injuries including light abrasions, a number of bumps and one cut, but she seemed to be in good spirits after the rescue.
