In November 2013, former MLBPA Executive Director, Michael Weiner, lost a courageous battle against brain cancer at the age of 51. Michael dedicated his life to the caring of his family first and foremost, and to supporting workers’ rights. In honor of Michael, Major League baseball players created the Michael Weiner Scholarship for Labor Studies to encourage the pursuit of a graduate-level degree in labor studies. Beginning January 2015, the Players Trust will annually award up to five $10,000 scholarships to individuals dedicated to a career in support of workers’ rights. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is Monday, November 10.
