The 11th United Nations Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species (CMS) began Tuesday in Quito, Ecuador with over 700 representatives from 120 countries in attendance. The meeting will focus on the threats posed by illegal poaching. This year the list of endangered species was expanded to include the polar bear and other animals. This is the first time the meeting had been held outside of Europe; Ecuador was selected because it is considered a leader in the defense of migratory animals and their habitats. teleSUR
