I'm a selfish beast by nature!
I say that without regret
(ohhh alright! A tiny bit of regret...
Fine! ! ...I regret having said it already! !
But it still stays in the poem!)
I love the time I have to myself
In fact I thoroughly enjoy it
It is...My Time!
Me Time! !
It does not belong to people
Who make demands of me...
It does not belong to friends, family or foe
It belong to Me! !
I'm quite certain
That I'm an introvert
Who has had to adapt
All these years...
To sharing parts of her life
With others
Now...having said all that
I want you to understand..
I do not live in a cave...
Or under a drawbridge
I am not a troll, hermit or carmudgeon
(well...not yet at least...)
I can play nice with others
(When I feel inclined..)
I love my family
And my friends...
But the time that I have to myself
Is heaven!
I can do whatever I want!
I can listen to My music
If I so choose!
I can write poetry...uninterupted!
I can even take a nice long relaxing bath...
If there are any bubbles left!
As an introvert...
I need 'Me' time!
I thrive on it!
It allows me to unwind...
Calm my soul
Clear my mind
Be at one...with...Me!
But I realize that all too soon
I'll have lots of time to myself! !
Likely...more than I can now imagine!
And so...
I'll take my few moments
Here and there...
And let the empty echos of the house
Remind me...
Just how much I love having
'My People'...around me!
I love 'Me' time...
But like everything else
That is good in life...
A little goes a long way!
