¡Sorpréndeme!

Aurora Wells - A Request (*NOT a poem*)

I walk into your room,
Body limp, skin pale
I wish you’d wake up and smile again
As I sit and hold your hand
All I can hear are the monitors beeping
Your breath unsteady, heart pounding
Please open your eyes, one more time for me,
Tell me you won’t give up, it’ll never win
Speaking words of encouragement, as I hold back my tears
Sometimes I just want to scream and cry
I’d sit here every day for years if you’d just tell me once
To kiss my “poopies” for you
This fight is a huge one, I understand,
But there’s one factor this cancer didn’t think of - you
The mother, the fighter, the very foundation of our lives, morals, and hearts were based
Take my hand, hold it
Feel out and use my strength, I give it all to you, for without you, I’d have none
There’s still so much you have wanted to experience
So many people you still have to meet and touch the hearts of
But right now, here you lay, and here we sit beside you
Feel us around you, surrounding you with our love, admiration, strength
Know your grandkids aren’t far either
Know they love you and want you to see them soon
To hold them, kiss them, and spoil them the way only a grandmother knows how
Take this all in, use it, and know it will never fade
Because if it wasn’t for you, none of this would be here for you right now
We give back to you every booboo you kissed, every tear you wiped, every smile you made that lightened our bad days
We give it all back to you now, to help you fight
Just to see you smile again

Dedicated to my mother, who is in ICU while I am miles away. Fight hard, let's get to the casino like we said we would ok? I love you! !
