Welcome to Michigan State University's Writing MOOC: Thinking Like a Writer. Before we get started, there are a few things you should know about the structure of this course that might make this course different from other classes you've taken, or even from other MOOC's you've taken.
The 'Thinking Like a Writer' instructors really believe in inductive learning—that means that we believe that people learning by doing. Think about the things you've learned to do well—chances are that you've learned by practicing that skill yourself.
This student-centered approach means that you won't find any lectures or PowerPoints within Canvas. Instead, you'll draft, share, get feedback, plan revisions, and revise for each module.
As you move through the course, pay special attention to how you think and write, and why you do it. This type of reflection will help you to learn a lot about yourself and how YOU think like a writer.
You will also learn from your Thinking Like a Writer peers. The Canvas discussion boards, Eli Review, and our Course Library are available to you 24/7 so that you can build up your writing skills and connect with your thinking like a writer peers.
And keep in mind that your MOOC instructors are here to help along to way, so please do keep in touch with any questions you might have.
