What do you think happens after death
are you buried till forgotten
or simply laid to rest
does your soul fall asleep
while your body but decays
or does it wither with your flesh
and end as soon as day
do their screams go unnoticed
as they fall in dark abyss
or are their bodies rendered
to the earth that gave them birth
are they coaxed by the heavens
gentle, sweet and slow
or are they torn from their world
gasping into the unknown
do they vanish into nothing
their life left but a wish
a graying, old photograph
the last and gentle kiss
or as their eyes close upon their house
they open in their home
the garden once promised
a palace, a throne
do they whisper in the heavens
and laugh amongst themselves
happy as the children
they left alone to dwell
do they watch us from the clouds
and peek out from behind the sun
do they kiss us goodnight
with every star they hung
or do they rot in their graves
and merge into the earth
their life is done
and so is their worth
the journey isn't taken
the path it stays unknown
only those who go before us
know and forever will know
