(for nathaniel)
sometimes I want to sit a while, to
meditate and think
sometimes I wish I had more than
these splatterings of ink
sometimes I want to hide away and
make a cup of tea,
and there's nothing like an introspective
tune to set me free
just like the boy who sits in silence
playing solitary songs
his headphones cannot keep me from his soul
sometimes he wants to take a walk
sometimes we sit around
the words are not the point-the best
times pass without a sound
he doesn't tell me all he thinks-just
trusts my eyes to see
but I can handle anything if he
wants to be with me
'cause he's the boy who sits in silence,
or playing songs on his guitar,
and his mind is just like mine behind the eyes
underneath the silence, there is
more than meets the eye
he reads my emotions
by a yawn or by a sigh
he doesn't need to ask me
anything about my day
and I know how he's feeling,
even though he doesn't say
he is the boy who sits in silence
making melodies for me
he'll never say, but I can make him smile
