Appreciating what is before you, its beauty and delicate nature,
its glory, just for you. Of course you stop, it’s not every day the
White Weeping Fuji blossoms. This is eternity as you meander
among the magnolia trees and rest in the shade
while the grass cools your skin. The entire Creation
culminates in this moment
orchestrated from the Mind of God.
“Mommy, what happens when you die? ”
When you’re eight and a half it’s a real concern,
you want to know. His mother holds him close.
“Will I go to heaven? What will it be like? ”
She tells him, “If you’ve been good,
and obeyed your parents,
of course you go to a good place.”
“What’s it like there? ”
“The grass is green and the sky is blue
and the water makes music
as it trips over the stones.
And the air is sweet like the ocean air
and the birds sing sweetly just for you.
You never feel bad. You always belong.
You are happy.
You don’t ever want to sleep
and everyone there is your friend.”
